On Friday, February 20, a remarkable series of blogs will be posted worldwide detailing the topic of compassion: what it means, how it plays out – or doesn’t – in today’s society, its benefits, and the dangers of its lack. The effort was sparked by an early January blog post by a woman writing as Considerings.
Under the hashtag #1000Speak, one thousand writers (and that number continues to grow) will publish their thoughts on compassion. The Facebook group 1000 Voices for Compassion has brought them together after Yvonne Spence put out a call:
How cool would it be if we could get 1000 bloggers on the same day to write posts about compassion, kindness, support, caring for others, non-judgement, etc.? (Date to be decided.) We could call it 1000 Voices For Compassion. Who’s in?
Over 400 bloggers responded positively in the first 48 hours. The project has generated an overflow blog for folks (including children) who would like to participate but don’t have a platform of their own.
Check back Friday to hear my thoughts on the subject. I’m generally a bit off kilter (in case you haven’t noticed – I skew the results of any survey I take!), walking my own path when it comes to things like this, so it should be interesting…I hope!
In the meantime, show a little compassion to those you meet.
