C.L. (Cyndi) Pauwels is hoping that, as she plows through her sixth decade, she’ll eventually figure out what she wants to be when she grows up.
Her crime fiction “Toledo Trilogy” (Forty & Out (2014), Burned Bridges (2017), and Unwelcome Ties (2022)) draws on her nearly 20 years’ experience working in the criminal justice field in Toledo, Ohio.
Fatal Errors, first in a new series, offers a fiery young hacker in the southwest region of Ohio, Dayton and Yellow Springs. Fatál Wood introduced herself to Cyndi with, “So I’m a hacker – get over it.” Fatál’s voice drives the story behind Fatal Errors, and it’s a snappy, sometimes brusque, compelling voice. She’s also a lot more compassionate than she’d have you believe as she sets out to right wrongs that society can’t – or won’t – handle with her not-inconsiderable hacking skills.
Cyndi has also written freelance news stories, the award-winning non-fiction Historic Warren County: An Illustrated History (2010), several anthologized essays, and numerous short stories. A recently retired college adjunct, Cyndi served as Assistant Director for the Antioch Writers’ Workshop for six years until its sad demise in 2018. She lives in Yellow Springs, Ohio, with her husband of 45 years and 12 chickens.
